During your stay

ATTENDANCE

At Languages United we strive to make your stay as pleasant as possible. You are  required  to attend all your lessons in order to benefit fully from the course. Your attendance will be noted and you will be rewarded at the end of the course with a certificate to show that you have completed the course successfully.

Attendance is marked at the beginning of the class.Students may enter the class up to 15 minutes after it starts but will be marked as late. After this, it will be at the teacher’s discretion whether the student is allowed to join.

If you are unable to attend a lesson you will need to inform the School or your Group Leader immediately. Please call us on 01225 580058 and let us know the reason of your absence.

Absences are followed up after an hour for adults and for under 18s within 15 minutes of the lesson start.

If you do not have a good reason to be absent or cannot provide evidence of your absence the following actions will be taken, depending on the reason and length of absence:

For an absence longer than 5 days due to illness, you will be asked to provide a Doctor's Certificate.

Any absence, or separate periods of absence, amounting to more than 5 days in the term (10 weeks) is notified to your agent/parent/sponsor.

On the second day of absence, if you cannot be contacted and have not contacted the school yourself, then the provider of your accommodation will be contacted.

If no explanation is found for the student's absence, your agent / parent / sponsor are advised.

Following further investigation and agreement with your agent / parents / sponsor, the appropriate authorities e.g. Police, Social Services may be notified.

If you are an  international student on a Tier 4 visa and absent for longer than five days without any contact or explanation then the UKBA are notified. This could result in the cancellation of your visa or may affect future visa applications.

What qualifies students to be expelled from the school?

All students must follow the Code of Conduct.

Any student who carries out a criminal act, has been found guilty of misconduct in line with the school’s disciplinary procedure or has a very poor attendance record, may be expelled and asked to return home. No refund will be given and the immigration authorities will be informed where necessary.

The school will also take action against those expressing radical and extremist views and, if appropriate, will report this behaviour to the appropriate authorities.

FURTHER STUDY IN UK

If you decide that you would like to enter mainstream British education, such as a British university, please ask a member of staff for advice. We will do our best to ensure you are given the relevant information and advice that you require.

TUTORIALS AND FEEDBACK

Regular tutorials with your teacher will help you understand your progress and will give you a chance to discuss your educational needs. These tutorials allow you to set targets and ask for additional homework and support.

FEEDBACK

Settling-In, Mid-course and End-of-Course Feedback are feedback forms we ask you to fill out, so we have a better understanding of your needs and experience in the school.

If you have any questions, concerns or issues, you are always welcome to discuss them with a member of staff. Communication is essential for good relations and we want to hear your feedback and view, so please come and talk to us anytime!

ACTIVITIES

If you would like to join activities that are organised by the school, speak to our Course Manager regarding the availability and prices. Adult students (18+) joining a junior activity should behave in a responsible and respectful way and not engage in any inappropriate behaviour with juniors. Adult students will need to sign a Code of Conduct form when joining any junior activities.

FINAL DAY AT SCHOOL

We hope that by this time you will have enjoyed your course with us and learnt a lot from being here.

On this day lessons will proceed as usual. At the end of the lessons you will be given your leaving certificate and teacher's report. You will have the chance to review your progress with your teacher and be given advice about ways to continue learning the language when you leave the school.

There will also be an opportunity for you to take photographs in the class and exchange your goodbyes with your teacher and fellow classmates. Should you need advice or help with organizing your travel arrangements we will be there to assist you as much as we can.
